A Taste of Luxury in Xanadu

Jasmine Goodwin
Reporting from Havana

HAVANA, Cuba - The trip included an array of pre-planned meals, including lunch at the Xanadu Mansion. It was easily the most beautiful meal we had. The mansion was just steps from the beach, and the house itself was breathtaking with flawless craftsmanship and timeless decor.

We dined outside on the patio of the house, which also overlooks the beach at Veradero.

The plates were exquisite and complimented the Cuban fare that was served. We dined on fish and (of course) the bread that was served at the beginning of nearly every meal.

Prior to the main dish, we were treated to an amazing salad! Even the edges of the plate were decorated to give it even more of a classy feel and appearance.

The fish itself was fresh and well-prepared. It was served along side rice, which was arguably the best tasting rice I had during my time in Havana.

I suppose it must have been good, because by the time I was done, my plate was nearly cleaned!

The meal was tastefully completed with Cuban traditional favorites: cheesecake, ice cream, coffe, and cigars from our tour guide!

Why it changed the way I eat:

From beginning to end, this meal felt like a story. The presentation, the setting, and the beach all provided an once-in-a-lifetime dining experience!
